Response to the Future of the Counterpart to the Driving Licence Consultation
By
Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

Consultee

Dear Sir/Madam,

THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTERPART TO THE DRIVING LICENCE
CONSULTATION EXERCISE 16 FEBRUARY TO 31 MAY 2004

Thank you for your response to the above consultation exercise.

You will be interested to know that over 82% of consultees who responded supported the abolition of the paper counterpart. Their preference was to obtain the information currently on the paper counterpart by secure electronic links to DVLA's database. A number of stakeholders also supported some form of paper document to show the information.

In response, Ministers have agreed to DVLA working with its stakeholders so as to provide secure and robust systems to send and receive information, with a view to abolish the issue of a paper counterpart. We will not do this, however, until organisations have access to DVLA's database. In addition, DVLA will also look at other ways of providing information to drivers that is currently shown on the paper counterpart.

A summary of responses is available from Mr Vaughan Lloyd at the above address and is also shown on DVLA's website at www.dvia.gov.uk.

Once again many thanks for participating in the consultation exercise and for your helpful comments.

Yours faithfully,

Jan Brock
