  • Motorcycle Leaflet - Group Riding and Filtering
  •

GEM has just published its latest road safety leaflet, aimed specifically at motorcyclists. The leaflet’s subject matter is specific, too, because our planners felt there would be more value in focusing on filtering and group riding, two particular areas of motorcycling in need of attention.

Martin Cooke, Chairman of the GEM Charity Board of Trustees and a highly experience former police motorcyclist, says he hopes the leaflet will offer some helpful advice in an upbeat way. “We’re not trying to preach,” he says. “But if we can set out a few simple tips that can make all the difference, then it is sure to be a worthwhile exercise.”

We commissioned specialist illustrator Graham Ogilvie to draw us some classy pictures for the leaflet, which is laid out in such a way as to fit into most riders’ jacket pockets.  Copies of the leaflet will be distributed to motorcyclists at events through the summer, as well as through riding groups.

If you would like a copy, please send a small stamped addressed envelope to GEM Motoring Assist, Station Road, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5EN. If you represent a group and require a large number of leaflets, please email enquiries@motoringassist.com

  • Personal safety on the road

  • A guide to personal safety for drivers produced in consultation with The Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

Personal Safety on the Road stresses the need to plan for personal safety and guides the reader through that process. It covers the most commonly feared crises such as road rage, breaking down in a vulnerable situation and coping after an accident, to more mundane, but potentially escalating situations such as the occupant of a car attempting to intimidate another driver.

It is packed with practical, easy to follow advice on safe travelling through towns at night, parking, travelling with children, seat belts and child safety seats, and contains useful checklists on basic car maintenance and what to include in an emergency kit, as well as an accident witness form.

  • Motorist’s breakdown & accident guide

  • Although cars are more reliable than ever before, breaking down remains a stressful and sometimes frightening possibility. The fact that it happens less frequently can result in drivers being unprepared when their car eventually does let them down.

The Motorist's Breakdown and Accident Guide was produced in consultation with The British Red Cross, the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators and covers simple maintenance checks to prevent a breakdown, advice and useful checklists on breakdowns, particular problems concerning motorway breakdowns, basic first aid, and what to do when accidents occur.

  • A guide to winter driving

  • It is widely believed that Britain's weather is changing - winter snaps arrive without warning and suddenly a few balmy Indian summer days can turn nasty. These unexpected severe weather conditions often mean that drivers are not prepared for the worst. Being ready for winter motoring conditions, even when the day feels comfortably warm, will allow for safer and more confident driving.

'A guide to winter driving' offers guidance and useful hints about coping with snow, ice, fog, heavy rain and hail, and provides a quick check-list to ensure your vehicle is properly prepared as well as a journey-planning guide.
