The GEM Road Safety Charity
GEM Road Safety Raffle

For 22 years we have been raising important funds for the GEM Road Safety Charity by way of our annual raffle.  Every year the winner received a car and this was seen to be a fabulous prize. However, more recently, we have become aware that a prize car may not be as popular as in the past.  Often the winner has asked if instead, it would be possible to have the cash value.  The reasons given have been varied but certainly make sense; “we’ve just bought a new car”, and “we tow a caravan, so we need a big car”, are just two that have come up. With this in mind, as an experiment this year we have decided to award cash prizes to all the winners.

As always, the proceeds from the raffle will be passed to the GEM Charity to be spent on worthwhile causes.  During the last year, the following are among those that have been funded by the GEM Charity:

Provision of communication equipment to Bike Safe Cymru.

Production and printing of Reaction Tester cards.

Production and printing of a leaflet ‘Are you a driver taking medicine’.

Production and printing of Road Sign Test Sheets.

            Production of DVD ‘Drive Smarter’.

Sponsorship of Road Safety Student of the Year.

Sponsorship of young driver initiative, Sussex Fire Service.

Provision of Vision Screening Machine, Shropshire County Council

Sponsorship of research by Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) – Targets beyond 2010.

This year’s first prize of £4,000, as are the runners up cash prizes, is well worth winning for the outlay of just £1 – but, of course, we would be even more appreciative if you bought all ten tickets within each book. The GEM Charity would benefit from the extra money and would be in a better position to fund even more deserving projects and initiatives.

Countless requests are received for funding many safety ventures.  The Charity would dearly like to support more than it is able, but has to be careful to allocate money to the most deserving cases. Some requests are refused for good reason, but others only because insufficient money is available.

If you are able to support this worthwhile project, please call 01342 825676 or email your postal address to info@motoringassist.com and request tickets.
